We just went live yesterday with content for a client's new intranet platform.
Yes - on time, on budget.
(Sorry, can't get into much more detail, we've signed NDAs.)
I've just been reflecting on how we got here. And yes, we'll do a retro shortly.
While we obviously had the expertise and experience to make a success of this project, the crucial factor in this case wasn't actually the content.
It was about the PEOPLE.
- We engaged stakeholders early, identifying them and getting them involved.
(As a client once said, "Nobody's sitting around waiting to be invited to a content meeting.") We held content parties to get and keep people interested.
- We asked for - and got - a change manager who did what they do best - communicated to the rest of the company in a clear, timely and reassuring manner.
- Every company has that one person who's been there for ages, knows the ins and outs of the organisation and can (hopefully!) be persuaded to share that wealth of information. We found that person.
- We identified and made use of a highly-ranked guardian angel (in this case, the sponsor of the project), whom we could consult and escalate issues to.
- This should be a given, but we worked closely with the design and development teams throughout. One team, one goal.
Oh and we brought Tim Tams, which are always well-received. Except for the people working remotely.
